Tour Overview
This tour of Egypt runs ten days, moving from Cairo through Luxor and Aswan before a stop at Abu Simbel and a final choice between Alexandria and further Cairo exploration. The Egypt itinerary 10 days covers Saqqara, Giza, the Egyptian Museum, Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Valley of the Kings, the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, Philae Temple and the Abu Simbel Temples, with five nights in Cairo, two in Luxor and two in Aswan.
Itinerary
This tour of Egypt opens the moment travelers land in Cairo, with a tour manager handling transportation and hotel check-in from the first moments. Settling into the 5-star accommodation marks the start of ten days spent across the country’s major historical regions.
Breakfast comes before a morning at the Great Pyramids of Giza, led by the Pyramid of Khufu, the only remaining Ancient Wonder of the World, alongside Khafre and Menkaure. The Sphinx and Valley Temple follow, with the Djoser Pyramid at Saqqara rounding out the day as the first pyramid ever built.
Meals Included
A visit to the Egyptian Museum opens the day, with galleries of golden treasures, royal mummies and artifacts spanning millennia. Lunch at a local restaurant precedes an afternoon at the Hanging Church in Old Coptic Cairo, built atop the Babylon Fortress water gate, followed by a stroll through Khan el Khalili bazaar.
Meals Included
Arrival in Luxor brings the Karnak Temple Complex into view, its Great Hypostyle Hall home to 134 columns. Luxor Temple follows, built and expanded by Amenhotep III, Tutankhamun, Horemheb and Rameses II, connected to Karnak by the Avenue of Sphinxes.
Meals Included
Breakfast precedes a morning at the Valley of the Kings, burial ground of rulers from the Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Dynasties, including Tutankhamun. Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple follows, carved into the limestone cliffs, with the Colossi of Memnon closing out the West Bank before an overnight stay in Luxor.
Meals Included
Breakfast opens a day of travel south, stopping first at the Edfu Temple, dedicated to the god Horus, before continuing to the Kom Ombo Temple, a rare double temple honoring Sobek and Horus the Elder. The day closes with arrival in Aswan.
Meals Included
Breakfast precedes a visit to the Aswan High Dam, an engineering project that transformed the surrounding landscape. The Unfinished Obelisk follows, still attached to its quarry bedrock, before the Temple of Philae closes the day, its colonnades dedicated to the goddess Isis and relocated to save it from rising waters.
Meals Included
This tour of Egypt continues to Abu Simbel, where the Great Temple of Ramses II stands with four colossal seated statues at its entrance, each 20 meters tall. The smaller temple built for Queen Nefertari sits alongside it, with the precision of their construction and astronomical alignment noted by the guide. A return to Cairo in the evening brings travelers back to their hotel.
Meals Included
Travelers choose between a day trip to Alexandria, visiting the Catacombs of Kom el-Shokafa, Pompey’s Pillar and the Citadel of Qaitbay, built in 1480 from stones said to come from the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, or further exploration of Cairo itself. A seafood lunch is included for those heading to Alexandria.
