Tour Overview
This trip to Egypt is built around 5,000 years of civilization compressed into eight days, opening with the earliest pyramids before heading south to Aswan and the Abu Simbel Temples. From there, the route boards a 5-star Nile Cruise, sailing from Aswan to Luxor and taking in Kom Ombo and Edfu along the way. Private touring in Cairo and small-group excursions in Aswan give the best trip to Egypt a pace suited to travelers who want depth without rushing.
Itinerary
This trip to Egypt begins the moment travelers land at Cairo International Airport, where a dedicated tour manager offers full assistance before a private, air-conditioned transfer into the city. Check-in at the selected hotel follows, with the tour manager reviewing the detailed itinerary and confirming pick-up times for the days ahead.
Meals Included
A rich breakfast at the hotel precedes a guided visit to the Giza Plateau, where the Great Pyramids of Giza stand alongside the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. Lunch at a traditional Egyptian restaurant follows, before the afternoon continues at the Grand Egyptian Museum, a short distance from the pyramid complex. The day wraps up with a return to the hotel to rest ahead of the flight south.
Meals Included
A morning flight takes travelers from Cairo to Aswan, where a private, air-conditioned transfer begins the day’s sightseeing on arrival. The Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddesses Isis and Hathor, comes first, followed by the Unfinished Obelisk, still resting in its ancient granite quarry. The day closes back at the Aswan hotel, ready for the Abu Simbel excursion ahead.
Meals Included
Breakfast at the hotel leads into a small-group excursion by modern air-conditioned coach to the Temples of Abu Simbel, built by Ramses II and considered among ancient Egypt’s finest architectural achievements. The Great Temple, dedicated to Ptah, Re-Her-Akhtey, Amun-Re, and Ramses II himself, stands beside the Temple of Queen Nefertari, honoring Hathor. After the visit, travelers return to Aswan to board their Nile Cruise for the first time.
Meals Included
Breakfast on board comes as the cruise makes its way toward Kom Ombo, where a walk through the town leads to its unusual twin-temple complex, built with two symmetrical entrances and matching sanctuaries. Lunch is served on board as the ship continues toward Edfu, home to one of the best-preserved temples from the Greco-Roman period. A horse-drawn carriage ride to and from the Temple of Horus at Edfu offers a glimpse of rural life in Upper Egypt, before afternoon tea on deck and dinner close the day.
Meals Included
Breakfast on board precedes the ship’s arrival in Luxor, where the West Bank begins with the Valley of the Kings, burial ground of 62 pharaohs. The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir El-Bahari follows, carved directly into the Theban cliffs, before the Colossi of Memnon close out the morning. The afternoon leaves time on board for afternoon tea, a massage, or the ship’s Jacuzzi, with dinner served that evening.
Meals Included
A final breakfast on the cruise ship comes before disembarkation and a transfer to the East Bank, where the Karnak Temple, one of the largest religious complexes ever constructed, opens the day. The Luxor Temple follows, before a transfer through the city to the airport for a flight back to Cairo. Arrival in the capital brings travelers to their hotel for a final night.
Meals Included
A final breakfast at the hotel allows for a relaxed last morning in Cairo, with time to walk its streets, chat with locals, or enjoy a cup of Egyptian tea before departure. The transfer to Cairo International Airport closes out this trip to Egypt, bringing the best trip to Egypt itinerary to its end.
